Project Description

Recently, Ready Mixed Concrete and Overland Sand and Gravel completed one of the larger projects in their history. The Monsanto plant located in Waco Nebraska took about a year and half to complete.

Site Development began on the $120 Million Monsanto project on May 1, 2008 with a completion deadline of August 31, 2009. Due to wetlands issues, none of the 46,000 cubic yards of concrete was placed until mid August yet the facility was open on time for the fall harvest in 2009.

With a fuel price of $4.10 per gallon at the time concrete placement began, and a 26 mile round trip from the York concrete plant to the Monsanto construction site, a decision was made to move a portable plant close to the site. This saved approximately 22,000 gallons of fuel.

The large building in the photo is 800’ in length. Foundations for the 3 grain dryers are 42” thick with double layer welded wire mats. Foundations for the bulk storage, tower and shelling buildings stand on auger cast and geopier piling. The site paving required 12,000 cy of concrete.
